Possible New Project: Lucio Gelli
November 9, 2008 by admin
According to this Italian site, Ticinonews.ch George has signed on to portray Lucio Gelli who just completed a deal with Sony to produce a film on his life. Lucio Gelli (born in Pistoia, Tuscany, April 21, 1919) is an Italian financier, chiefly known for his role in the Banco Ambrosiano scandal. He was revealed in 1981 as being the Worshipful Master of the clandestine Masonic lodge Propaganda Due (P2). The article states that George will begin filming once done with his current project and continue filming in the summer of 2009. (Just a note: I have not been able to confirm this with anyone.) Thanks to Reve for a headsup.

Dicaprio possible lead in Farragut North

In an excerpt from an article on Farragut North it reads that the screenplay has been finished and Leonardo DiCaprio is a possible for the lead part of Stephen Bellamy.
“Farragut North” developed a bit like a harum-scarum campaign. The actor Jake Gyllenhaal played Stephen in a workshop reading in 2007, and Second Stage Theater announced plans to mount it in its 2007-8 season. Then the director Mike Nichols was rumored to be interested in directing the play on Broadway, with Mr. Gyllenhaal, and the Second Stage production was scuttled. Warner Brothers acquired the film rights and brought in Mr. Clooney’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s production companies to co-produce. The Nichols production, whether it was ever really likely, fell through; Mr. Willimon, meanwhile, finished a screenplay version for the Hollywood producers, who are continuing to develop a film project, possibly with Mr. DiCaprio as Stephen.
The complete article can be read at the Source.
George stated during his Leatherheads tour that he would be directing Farragut North at the end of this year and may take a small part in it as well.
“I am also going to direct again at the end of the year. It’s called Farragut North, about the people who run political campaigns. But I wouldn’t do a lead part. I’ve been in every film that I’ve directed (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Good Night, and Good Luck, and now Leatherheads), and that’s fine. But when you’re the lead, it’s hard to get the rhythms going.
Confessions of a Writer

This is an excerpt from an interview with once writer-now director Charlie Kaufman. Kaufman wrote the screenplay to George’s 2002 directorial debut “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”. Seems he wanted to take it in a different direction.
Don’t, however, expect Kaufman to be as generous with the accolades when it comes to George Clooney, whom he blames for fatally marring his script for “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.”
“I felt like I had been cut out of the process and I felt like the movie had been changed from my original intent,” Kaufman said of Clooney, who made his directorial debut in telling the story of game show host Chuck Barris and his claims to have been a CIA operative.
“I really didn’t want the movie to be ‘game show host by day, assassin by night,’ which is what Clooney was more interested in. I really wanted it to be about the interior struggle of this man while keeping the question alive of whether or not his secret life was true. And if it wasn’t true, why did this guy make up this particular fantasy to … make his life have meaning? I don’t think George Clooney was really attuned to that or interested.”
“Confessions,” it turned out, was one of only two flops on Kaufman’s resume. The other was “Human Nature,” which unlike “Confessions” had a miniscule budget and no big-name stars.
Clooney heads cast of ‘Goats’ film
Some serious star power will be coming to the state with a new film about a bizarre-but-true paranormal Army unit, according to Gov. Bill Richardson’s office.
“Men Who Stare at Goats” will star George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and Kevin Spacey. It’s currently in production in Puerto Rico and will begin filming in mid-November in New Mexico. Locations include Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Roswell and Zia Pueblo.
The production will employ about 175 New Mexico crew members.
The film is a Smoke House Pictures project that was developed at BBC Films by Paul Lister in association with Alison Owen of Ruby Films. It’s being produced by Lister, Clooney and Grant Heslov, who will also direct. Heslov and Clooney wrote “Good Night and Good Luck,” which Clooney also directed. Barbara A. Hall, James A. Holt and Owen are executive producers.
The screenplay for “Men Who Stare at Goats” was written by Peter Straughan and was inspired by the best-selling non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Ronson. The story is set in the early days of the American invasion of Iraq. Clooney plays an enigmatic operative, Lyn Cassady, on a highly secret mission. McGregor is Bob Wilton, a local news reporter for a Midwestern paper covering the war in an attempt to “prove his manhood to an ex-wife who no longer cares,” according to Richardson’s office.
The reporter follows Clooney’s character into the heart of the conflict and learns about an experimental Army unit called the First Earth Battalion that was formed in 1979, according to Ronson’s Web site. They believed soldiers could use psychic powers to adopt a cloak of invisibility, pass through walls and kill goats just by staring at them. The unit has been active in the Iraq war, according to Ronson’s book.
This will be the 110th major film or television production to come to the state since 2004 when Richardson took office and worked to beef up the state’s film incentives. The productions have brought close to $1.9 billion in economic impact here, according to his office.
Casting Call for Men Who Stare at Goats
One of the most respected actors in the movie industry is coming to Roswell, and his production company is looking for local talent to play a role in its upcoming film.
Oscar winner George Clooney will star in “Men Who Stare At Goats,” which will hit theaters in 2010. As an incentive to help promote movie production in New Mexico, Smoke House and BBC Films will employ almost 500 people from the surrounding area for roles in the movie. An open casting call will be held Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at La Quinta Inn and Suites, 200 East 19 Street.
Clooney headlines a star-studded cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey. The movie is scheduled to shoot for three days in Roswell, beginning Nov. 12. The production companies noted they are looking for military and ex-military personnel, in addition to all men, women and children. Also, the companies are looking for late model sedans, preferably from 1973 to 1983, for the movie.
“We would prefer the cars to be in their original state,” said Elizabeth Gabel, extras casting director. “We will not use any cars that have been remodeled or changed from their original state.”
The movie is inspired by the book of the same name, authored by Jon Ronson. The action-comedy is about a reporter (McGregor) trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails. He gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent (Clooney), who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose main goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit (Bridges) has gone missing, and the trail leads to another psychic soldier (Spacey), who has distorted the mission for his own nefarious ends.
The movie will be co-directed by Grant Heslov and Clooney, who both formed the Smoke House movie company in 2006. Heslov’s acting credits include such films as “True Lies,” “The Scorpion King” and “Enemy of the State.”
Production of the movie is currently taking place in Puerto Rico, where the cast began filming earlier this month. According to Gabel, the New Mexico Military Institute will be one of the main scenes for production in Roswell, along with other areas of the city.
“We will be using a lot of military-related material for the movie,” Gabel said. “We are very excited to be in Roswell, and the cast looks forward to working there for the movie.”
Clooney won an Oscar in 2006 for his role in “Syriana” and was nominated for another last year for the lead in “Michael Clayton.” McGregor has starred in films such as “Moulin Rouge,” “Blackhawk Down” and “Star Wars: Episodes 1-3.” Both Bridges and Spacey are long time veterans of cinema; Bridges is best known for his recent role in “Iron Man,” while Spacey was the star in “American Beauty” and “Superman Returns.”
