George Clooney to play ‘Tourist’
Jun 12th, 2008 | By admin | Category: Movies, NewsWarner Bros. has set Anthony Peckham to adapt “The Tourist,” an Olen Steinhauer novel being developed as a potential star vehicle for George Clooney.
Smokehouse’s Grant Heslov, Nina Wolarsky and Clooney will produce.
Acquired by WB in the fall, “The Tourist” is a contemporary international thriller about a spy who risks everything to reveal a conspiracy after he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit.
Peckham’s script “Human Factor” will be directed early next year by Clint Eastwood; Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon will star. Warner just recruited Guy Ritchie to director “Sherlock Holmes,” for which Peckham did a rewrite, and the scribe also did a rewrite on “Book of Eli,” a project that has Denzel Washington circling at WB.
Clooney will next be seen in the Joel and Ethan Coen-directed “Burn After Reading.”

George Clooney Is The Tourist
When I hear George Clooney is in a movie called The Tourist, why do I instantly think he’s starring in some sort of sex thriller about sex tourism? We know he can grow the right kind of mustache for it. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on whether you’re hot to see Clooney’s ass… ladies), that’s not this movie.
Variety says The Tourist is a spy movie, in which Clooney may play a spy wrongly accused of murder by a conspiracy. To clear his name, he risks everything (which I presume means he does a lot of Tom Cruise-style running) to uncover what’s up.
I say Clooney may play a spy in it, because he’s not exactly committed yet. Mainly because they don’t have a script. Anthony Peckham has just been hired to adapt the novel “The Tourist” into the movie The Tourist for him. If it doesn’t suck, Clooney will flex his spy muscles.

Clooney Looking to The Tourist
Though it seems that The Tourist has been on the adaptation chopping block for some time, Warner Bros. has only begun to make their first moves in adapting the Olen Steinhauer novel. Not only does the studio have Anthony Peckham onboard to adapt the material, but the project could quickly become a starring vehicle for none other than George Clooney.
Warner Bros acquired film rights to The Tourist last fall. The story is a contemporary international thriller about a spy who risks everything to reveal a conspiracy after he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit.
The project is right up Peckham’s alley, as he recently handled scripts such as Human Factor, a project starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. He also did a rewrite on Sherlock Holmes, for which Guy Ritchie has come aboard to direct, and Book of Eli, a film that Denzel Washington is looking to get involved with.
But enough with the namedropping, Clooney can next be seen in the Coen Brother-directed Burn After Reading, where he will co-star opposite Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Richard Jenkins. Damn, more namedropping!

Clooney the Tourist
George Clooney doesn’t slow down, attaching himself to projects even more often than sexy babes. Just last month he decided to kill some goats with his brain, and now he’s taking a trip.
Clooney plans to star in THE TOURIST, based on a novel by Olen Steinhauer. The story is “a contemporary international thriller about a spy who risks everything to reveal a conspiracy after he’s accused of a murder he didn’t commit.” Clooney’s commitment is contingent on the adaptation from scribe Anthony Peckham, who also wrote Eastwood’s upcoming Mandela movie featuring Morgan Freeman.
This THE TOURIST is apparently unrelated to the recently announced project of the same name (an American remake of the 2005 French thriller ANTHONY ZIMMER) and the Hugh Jackman/Ewan McGregor flick DECEPTION, which also originally went by the same title.
