Leatherheads preparing to film in Northern Greenville County

Crews begin preparing northern Greenville County site to shoot movie
Bleachers, goalposts grow in field for ‘Leastherheads’

Hollywood meets rural South Carolina this week, as the George Clooney film “” prepares to begin shooting a scene in northern Greenville County. The glamour quotient is a bit low, however, at the site of next week’s filming. The unassuming farmland in Tigerville is about as un-Hollywood as it gets. A field has been outfitted with crude bleachers and goalposts for a scene in the 1920s-set football comedy, which also stars Renee Zellweger. A lone security guard stood sentry at the field Thursday as cows milled around in a nearby pen. Only authorized personnel were allowed on the field said the guard, Christopher Parker of Greenville. But authorized personnel, not to mention movie stars, were scarce. Crews were busy setting up catering tents in front of North Greenville University’s athletic complex for Monday’s work, but not much else could be seen. David and Elaine Robinson of Easley drove out to Tigerville on Thursday morning to have a look around. “It’s curiosity,” said David Robinson. The Robinsons said they thought the film might give a boost to the Upstate. “It brings a lot of attention to this area,” David Robinson said. North Greenville University students were keeping their eyes open for Clooney, who also serves as director and co-writer for “.” “Everyone wants to catch a glimpse of George Clooney,” said sophomore Tommy Chambers. Rebekah Brooks, a North Greenville student from Gastonia, N.C., said she’s a Clooney fan and hopes to see a bit of the on-set activity, as do many of her classmates. “Everybody’s talking about it. It’s the main topic of conversation at breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Brooks said. The attention that “” brings will benefit the school, Brooks said. “It’ll put Tigerville on the map,” she said. “It’s exciting for us.”
