Nick Clooney Remembers Walter Cronkite

In the past 15 years, and had become friends. They would get together in New York City to talk about old stories. Clooney had also accompanied Cronkite to the many speeches Cronkite made during his retirement.

died Friday from Cerebrovascular disease. He was 92.

Clooney said of Cronkite:

“He was a steamroller. He was the fellow who broke the story and told the story and was able to do it in a fashion that was civilized.”

Clooney said many anchors and reporters, including himself, found themselves imitating Cronkite’s direct person-to-person approach to telling stories.

CBS is airing a special prime-time tribute to entitled “That’s the Way It Was: Remembering ” at 7 p.m. Sunday night.
