George Mention: Cate Blanchett
CATE, THIS YEAR YOU’VE KISSED BRAD PITT, GEORGE CLOONEY AND BILL NIGHY. WHO’S BEST? Blanchett: Bill. [Giggles] But they were all good.
George Mention: Joan Rivers
Q: Who are you looking forward to seeing at the Golden Globes?
A: [Melissa] Cate Blanchett, along with the [cast of] “Desperate Housewives.” [Joan] George Clooney — I’m bringing a rabbi, I’m ready — also, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman. Also the English ones, Helen Mirren has changed radically. (Atlanta Journal)
George Mention: Ricky Gervais
“(People) see George Clooney and they go, `He’s happy, he’s successful, he’s got everything, he’s famous. Therefore, I shall become famous.’ No, no, no. He’s happy, because he’s successful, because he’s good at something. His fame is an upshot of what he does. They actually use it as a shortcut for happiness. They don’t know what will make them happy, they think, `Fame will make me happy.’” (The Star-Ledger)
George on Cate Blanchett
GEORGE CLOONEY has blasted pretentious actors who stay in character off set, and wishes they would be more like CATE BLANCHETT. Blanchett plays a German agent in new movie THE GOOD GERMAN, and while she perfected the accent quickly she would slip back into her native Australian accent as soon as the cameras stopped rolling. And Clooney, used to actors who stay in character for the duration of the filming, was delighted at the LORD OF THE RINGS star’s lack of pretension. The OCEANS ELEVEN star says, “Some actors, it’s all about the craft and that’s the most important thing in the world. “But Cate will come to work and have a conversation about virtually anything and then the director will go ‘OK, action,’ and she’ll turn around and have the perfect German accent. And then he will say cut, and she’ll turn around and go, ‘OK… anyway.’ “And I can’t tell you how much that is appreciated because to me that is true professionalism, having the ability not to make everybody have to participate in your acting experience.” (Contact Music)

HOLLYWOOD heartthrob George Clooney has described Cate Blanchett as a “freak of nature” because of her extraordinary talent as an actor. The two Oscar winners star together in the new drama, The Good German, set in post-World War II Germany and already touted as a serious contender for the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony. Clooney, who has tipped Blanchett to win the Oscar for the role, continued to speak of his adulation for the Australian actress when the co-stars assembled in front of the New York media on the weekend. The big screen master said he had marvelled at the Australian’s acting talents in past roles, but was blown away by how she transformed into her latest character. She’s a freak of nature, that girl. Honestly, she can do anything,” he said. (Daily Telegraph)
