Clooney, McGregor to shoot ‘Goats’ in N.M.

ALBUQUERQUE, Sept. 24 (UPI) — Film stars George Clooney and are heading to New Mexico to shoot their new movie “,” the movie’s publicist says.

The film, which reportedly will co-star and , is based on British journalist Jon Ronson’s non-fiction book by the same name.

Rob Harris, the movie’s publicist, told the Albuquerque Journal the film is expected to start shooting in northern New Mexico this November.

Ronson’s book is about the U.S. Army’s alleged experimentation with psychological warfare techniques, including its attempts to use brain waves to kill goats and rock music to torture suspects, the newspaper noted.

Clooney won an Oscar for his work in “Syriana.” He was nominated for another earlier this year for his performance in “Michael Clayton” and can now be seen in “Burn After Reading.”

McGregor starred in the “Star Wars” prequels, as well as “Trainspotting,” “Moulin Rouge” and “Big Fish.”

George Clooney and Grant Heslov are assembling an all-star cast for their Mandate Pictures-produced The , says The Hollywood Reporter.

, and are in negotiations to star opposite Clooney in the feature, which Heslov is directing from a script by Peter Straughan.

Based on the book by the Guardian columnist Jon Ronson, “Goats” is set in Iraq and centers on Bob Wilton (McGregor), a desperate reporter who stumbles upon the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady (Clooney), who claims to be a former secret U.S. military psychic soldier who was re-activated post-9/11.

“Goats” chronicles the two men’s travels through Iraq and offers glimpses into the supposedly real secret Army unit tasked with creating soldiers with paranormal powers.

Bridges will play Bill Django, the founder of the psychic soldier program and Lyn’s mentor. Spacey will play Larry Hooper, a former psychic soldier who is running a prison camp in Iraq.

Clooney and Heslov’s Smoke House and BBC Films are co-producing the feature, which is eyeing an early October production start date.

Based on the book by the Guardian columnist Jon Ronson, the Mandate Pictures project centres on a desperate reporter (McGregor) who stumbles upon the story of a lifetime when he meets a man (Clooney) who claims to be a former secret U.S. military psychic spy who was reactivated post-9/11.

Directed by Clooney’s production partner Grant Heslov, “Goats” chronicles the pair’s travels through Iraq and offers glimpses into the supposedly real secret Army unit tasked with creating soldiers with paranormal powers.

Clooney and Heslov’s Smoke House and BBC Films are co-producing the feature, which is eyeing an early October production start date.

McGregor’s recent films include “Miss Potter” and “Cassandra’s Dream.”
